What to do when your identity is stolen

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Muskegon woman, like so many, is a recent victim of identity theft. After noticing fraudulent activity in her account, she contacted her bank branch and then 13 On Your Side for help.

Christine Sayas says she first tried to use her banking card at a gas station and it was rejected. She later found hundreds of dollars of charges in Denver, Colorado. Sayas says she doesn't know anyone in that area.

She also filed a report at the Muskegon Police Department. The department says if you have an issue contact these three reporting agencies: Experian, Transunion, and Equifax.

Your credit and debit card is most likely compromised locally before it is used somewhere else, so watch your accounts carefully and contact the agencies if anything suspicious happens.

WZZM 13's Sarah Barwacz has the story in the video posted above.

Muskegon Lumberjacks get new owners, coach

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- The sale of the Muskegon Lumberjacks was approved at the United States Hockey League's Board of Governors meeting in Chicago on Monday.

The United States Hockey League franchise is now owned by brothers Chris and Peter Ferraro and John Vanbiesbrouck, who are all former NHL players.

A lot has happened with the U.S.H.L. team in the last two weeks; however Lumberjacks President Tim Taylor say the biggest change was in team ownership.

"Change can sometimes be good," says Taylor. "In this case, it is great."

The trio of owners will lead the team into its fourth season. The owners say they are excited to be part of the Muskegon community.

"Muskegon is a great town. It has a great history with hockey," Vanbiesbrouck says. "And all of those things culminate to want to be in a traditional hockey market."
