Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock headlines Muskegon Walk for Diabetes

MUSKEGON, Mi (WZZM) - Major League baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock is participating in the Muskegon Walk for Diabetes on June 4th.  Brock played 19 seasons with the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals is currently second on the all time steals list for Major League baseball.             

Brock will not be walking in the event but will be available to sign autographs and talk to walkers; he will also discuss his battle with Type 2 diabetes.  

Man shot Sunday in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - Muskegon Police are investigating the shooting of a 25-year-old man Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to a home in the 500 block of Houston Avenue at about 5:00pm Sunday.  They found the man, a Muskegon Township resident, in the backyard with a gunshot wound to his torso.  His wife was administering first aid to him.

The man was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.  He is listed in stable condition.

Police say that they are unsure of the motive behind the shooting and there are no suspects in custody at this time.

County may sell train depot

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - Muskegon County Commissioners are expected to decide Tuesday if they'll sell a historic building to a downtown promotion and development group.

Muskegon County has owned the 103-year old Grand Trunk Depot on West Western Avenue since 1990. It may soon sell the building for $1 to downtown Muskegon Now. The not-for-profit wants to renovate the structure then find a small business to least the space.

At one time, the depot served rail passengers traveling to and from Muskegon.

Musk. Hts. gets grant to remove tires

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WZZM) - Muskegon Heights officials are getting assistance from the state to remove old tires from their community.

The $3,000 in grant money may not sound like much but City Manager Natasha Henderson says it will pay to properly discard several hundred tires.

Old tires are often illegaly dumped in yards of vacant homes or left in back alleys. The city spends several thousand dollars each year gathering and disposing of the trash tires.

City residents are encouraged to discard of old tires at the Department of Public Works. The cost is $3 per tire.

Accused polygamist wanted for skipping court

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A man accused of marrying a West Michigan woman without divorcing his wife in Rhode Island is wanted on a bench warrant issued by a Muskegon County judge.

Circuit Court Judge Timothy Hicks issued the bench warrant for Richard Barton Jr., 34, on April 26, when Barton failed to appear for a pretrial hearing.  Barton also missed a show-cause hearing on May 20.
