Bunker Middle School Students Build Remote Vehicles

On January 12th and 13th Bunker Middle School students were able to build & test remote operating vehicles (ROV) at the Muskegon Naval Memorial & Museum and tour the submarine. As Craymer explains, “This is part of the 8th Grade unit on Oceans and Climate. The ROV's are a real world connection on how scientists explore to expand our understanding of the ocean and how we use technology to develop resources for human use. This is also a crossover into our next unit on electricity. How batteries and motors function and are used (Subs, both large and small, for the most part, run on battery power).”

Craymer goes on to state, “Bunker’s after school program has a mixture of thirty 6th, 7th and 8th graders who are currently building and programming mindstorm robots. Two teams from Bunker will build underwater Remote Operating Vehicles for competition this February in Spring Lake and this March in Chicago.
