Wind and waves bring kiteborders out in Muskegon

This pair of kite boarders braved the cool weather and the blistery wind chill to give Muskegon beach goers a real treat. Kite boards use the surface of the water and the wind to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kite board. Sunday’s weather provided lots of wind and waves and thrills for the kite boarders and spectators.

The kites caught the wind and the surfers rode the waves at speeds that seemed to fast to control, but the skill the surfers showed was a real thrill even from the safety of the beach. The riders were able to control the boards using the kite ropes and made turns, jumps and even took to the air themselves at times. The relatively protected areas inside the Muskegon channel arms was perfect for these thrill seekers and those of us lucky enough to see them.
