MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich.—When the Muskegon Lumberjacks take the ice on Wednesday, chances are some Muskegon County students will be watching, thanks to a new rewards program.

The program honors those who have excelled in the classroom with free tickets to a Lumberjacks home game. The students sit in a special section reserved and paid for by Community Schools Credit Union, County Teachers Insurance Agency and M3 Investment Services.

“Our partnership with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and area school districts is focused on promoting reading among area students. While many schools will use the tickets to recognize student reading efforts, many others already have student reward programs for positive behavior and academics in place. Most often public schools lack the funds to provide a reward of this magnitude,” explains Carol Wagner, president of Community Schools Credit Union.

Muskegon County schools have 1,500 tickets to reward to students.  The recipients so far have included Whitehall High School students who mentored freshman through the “The Link” program. The Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, Fruitport, Holton, Mona Shores, Montague, Muskegon, Muskegon Heights, North Muskegon, Oakridge, Orchard View, Ravenna, Reeths-Puffer, Whitehall, and White Lake Community Education will all receive tickets through the rewards program.
