The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce has honored several women as entrepreneurs over the years, however, this is the first time a woman will give the keynote address for the popular Annual Entrepreneur Award Luncheon.  Cynthia Kay, Owner and President of Cynthia Kay & Company, has been selected as the program's first female keynote speaker.

 

Cynthia Kay & Company is a prominent media production company located in Grand Rapids, MI. The company provides broadcast quality productions, graphics, animations, interactive CDs and DVDs, digital signage, and media and presentation training programs for clients that include several Fortune 500 companies, small businesses and non-profits.

My Town Muskegon: Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a parade helping the hungry

MUSKEGON, Mich.—Irish or not, everyone is invited to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a Muskegon tradition this weekend.

The Greater Muskegon Jaycees are once again teaming up with Hennessy’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, the Muskegon County CVB and Michigan Irish Music festival to put on the St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday, March 15.  This year’s celebration will include Irish floats, bands, families, organizations and businesses.

The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. on Clay Avenue, traveling from 4th Street To Jefferson Street. Spectators are encouraged to bring along non-perishable foods, which will be picked up by the Jaycees to donate to Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry.

Located in the former M.F. Carlson’s Food Market, CityHub Cyclery caters to beginning bikers and serious cyclists alike, carrying top-name brands previously unavailable in West Michigan. My Town: Baker College students heading to national competition

MUSKEGON, Mich.—A group of Baker College students are heading to a national business competition in Indianapolis.

Five of six students who are part of the Baker College Business Professionals of America team will compete at the national BPA conference, which runs April 30 to May 4.  The qualifying students earned the following honors during the state conference in Grand Rapids:

  • Chad Bazzett, of North Muskegon, won two first place awards, in Computer Security and in Information Technology Concepts, and two second-place awards, in Computer Network Technology and in Systems Administration Using Cisco.
  • Joshua Hooker, North Muskegon, won first place in Network Administration Using Microsoft and two third-place awards, in Computer Network Technology and in PC Servicing & Troubleshooting.
  • Kody Hesselink, Muskegon, took third in Systems Administration Using Cisco and fourth in Computer Net

My Town Muskegon: Applebee's celebrates grand re-opening with donation to Kids' Food Basket

MUSKEGON, Mich.—A newly-renovated Applebee’s restaurant celebrated its grand re-opening Tuesday, Feb. 18 by helping hungry children.

During the ribbon cutting event, the restaurant located at 1825 E. Sherman Blvd. presented a check for $5,573.22 to Kids' Food Basket.  The donation marks nearly $35,000 Team Schostak Family Restaurants has donated to non-profit organizations throughout West Michigan.

“We’re so excited to be here on the lakeshore now and we’re serving two schools- almost 600 students a day,” says Kids’ Food Basket Executive Director Bridget Clark-Whitney. “This kind of donation is going to provide over 5,500 meals to kids right here in the community. Every dollar means a meal and every meal means a time that a child isn’t going to bed hungry and that child is able to get up, go to school and learn right here in Muskegon County.”

My Town Muskegon: New upscale resale store now open

MUSKEGON, Mich.— A family-owned business billed to be the only exclusively plus-size resale store in West Michigan is now open in Muskegon.

JiJi B’s is mother-daughter owned store located in West Village Plaza, at the corner of Henry and Sherman.  The store offers upscale resale clothing and accessories for ladies sizes 14 and up.  The store also specializes in fitting Essential BodyWear bras.  Co-owner Jinger Michael says she and her mother have specialized in resale for many years and thought it would be a good idea to offer a place to shop for ladies in or around their same size.

JiJi B’s store hours are Wednesday – Friday, 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.  until 4 p.m. JiJi B’s also buys clothes on Saturday, until 3 p.m..  For more information, call the store (231) 955-7512.
