MUSKEGON, Mich.– The American Red Cross is offering disaster response training geared to individuals who want to volunteer to help victims of disaster.

This course is a prerequisite for all advanced disaster training offered for American Red Cross disaster volunteers. This course is open to the public is an entry level instructor led course.

The disaster training course,  “Disaster Services: An Overview” will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the American Red Cross, 313 W. Webster Ave., Muskegon, MI 49440 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. This training will prepare potential volunteers to understand the Red Cross role in disaster relief and prepare the participant for further training that will allow the participant to assist in responding to house fires, managing a shelter, feeding, meeting medical needs and providing emotional support to disaster victims.

“People do not always realize how simple it is to become a volunteer who will provide hands on help to our neighbors when their home is destroyed by a disaster, either right here in our community or across the United States”, said Sue Gray, Disaster Action Team Volunteer and trainer.
