Treasurers for Tanzania: A Benefit Concert | Community Spirit

People often believe they can only change their own little corner of the world. On July 15th, the people of West Michigan will have the opportunity to help change the lives of children halfway around the earth.

First Congregational Church and Muskegon Community College are joining forces to present a benefit concert,“Treasures for Tanzania,” and dessert afterglow. Proceeds support the Tumaini Children’s Foundation, a charity that helps orphaned and poor children in Tanzania, Africa to regain health and obtain a quality education. Muskegon residents Diane Goodman and her daughter Mariel have both volunteered at the Tumaini Orphanage. Mariel traveled there first, shortly after her graduation from Mona Shores High School. In turn, she persuaded her mother to return with her after Diane had finished teaching school for the year at Reeths-Puffer Elementary School. Both agree that their time there was a life-changing experience.

Performers will include Muskegon’s own Tim Froncek, joined by outstanding jazz players; world-renowned opera singer Gwenneth Bean; members of the faculty of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp; recording artist guitarist Alan Goodman; and the Shema singers from First Congregational Church.   The concert will be light in nature and the afterglow will feature treats suitable for a summer evening.

The concert will be held in the Overbrook Theater at Muskegon Community College at 7:30 p.m.  A suggested donation of $10 for admission will be taken at the door.  For further information on the Tumaini Children’s Foundation visit www.tuchifo.com.
