2nd Annual Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Benefit Run

On Saturday, July 18, 2015, the VFW Post 4249 of Newaygo will be hosting the Michigan Knights of Columbus 4th Degree District 4, 2nd Annual Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Benefit Run.

Runners are asked to meet at 3000 Monroe Ave NE in Grand Rapids, MI at 9:00am. Ride to the VFW in Newaygo, leaving at 11:30am.

A $25 donation covers food, fun and a raffle ticket. There will also be music, prizes and refreshments.

It's Vacation Bible School Time Again

“Journey off the Map” is the name of the Vacation Bible School session activities this summer at Berrean Church in Muskegon, MI.

Bible School runs July 19 – 23 at the Church, located at 635 Seminole Rd. in Muskegon. Activities include games, crafts, music, snacks, teaching and worship rally.

State Rep. Holly Hughes, R-Montague, invites residents of the 91st House District to meet with her during coffee hours for the months of May and June to discuss state and local issues of interest.

District office hours for Rep. Hughes will be Friday, May 22 in Whitehall and Fruitport; Monday, June 1 and Friday, June 19 in Norton Shores; Friday June 5 in Ravenna; and Monday, June 15 in Muskegon.

St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish to Host Summer Celebration May 29

GRAND HAVEN, Mich., May 14, 2015--When St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish opens its doors to the general public for a special "Summer Celebration" on Friday, May 29, from 6 p.m. to midnight, those in attendance will be welcomed to find their place by the bandshell being brought in for a toe-tapping party in the parking lot, food, drinks, dancing and entertainment.

The event will be held on the parish grounds at 920 Fulton Street in Grand Haven.  Cost of admission is $5 per person.  Hot dogs, brat's, Jet's pizza, pop and water will be available for a minimal fee.  A full cash bar also will be available, serving keg and canned beer, wine and a variety of mixed drinks.

Live music will be provided by performers with the Scottville Clown Band from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by Soul'd Out Band, featuring lead singer and parishioner Bubba LeClair, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 5:30pm, is the scheduled time for the Muskegon Police Officers Memorial Service.

Due to construction at the Hall of Justice, this year’s memorial service will be held at Heritage Landing, at the Paul C. Johnson Pavilion. Enter Heritage Landing off 7th St. and drive left until you reach the parking area.

Lost Boat Ceremony in Muskegon at USS Silversides Museum

On Sunday, May 24, 2015, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum will hold the 29th Annual Lost Boat Ceremony to honor the 52 USN submarines that were lost during WW11 and the over 3500 men who are still on “eternal patrol.”

The ceremony will begin at 11:00am with a fly over by a local warbird group, The Hooligans. The keynote address will be delivered by Captain Michael B. Ryan, commanding officer and professor of Naval Science at the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit at the University of Notre Dame. The ceremony concludes with the starting of the Silversides’ engines.

You are invited to a free lunch following the ceremony and will have time to explore the museum and vessels at no charge up until 1:00pm.
