My Town Whitehall: Artists embrace the 'Change of Seasons' in juried exhibition

A graphite and pencil drawing garnered top honors at Arts Council of White Lake’s Change of Seasons Juried Exhibition, by winning artist was Eleanor Goudreau. The youth division was full of tremendous paintings, collages and photographs.

Winners were announced at the show opening and artists’ reception February 27. It runs through March 28 at the ACWL building, 106 E. Colby Street, Whitehall.

The 2015 Change of Seasons show drew 74 adult entries, of which 63 were accepted. The youth show has 48 entries.

My Town Grand Haven: LDL’s Sunday Concert Series presents Celtic Band Uneven Ground March 8

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- St. Patrick’s Day festivities come early at Loutit District Library (LDL) as the library’s Sunday Afternoon Concert Series continues on March 8 with the traditional Celtic band "Uneven Ground" (UG).

Uneven Ground is a four-piece traditional Celtic band that blends vocals with instrumentals to bring their listeners on a unique musical journey. Jigs, reels, airs, hornpipes, stories, and songs comprise the band’s traditional repertoire.

The concert will be held on LDL’s upper level lobby area from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Library officials urged the public to come early due to limited seating. LDL opens at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Funding for LDL’s 2014-15 Sunday Concert Series is generously provided by the Matilda and Harold Crane Donor Advised Fund of the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation.

Teams to “Bowl for Kids’ Sake”

 

Muskegon MI: Volunteers and community members are lacing up their bowling shoes to help all children achieve success in life.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lakeshore is holding its largest and longest running annual fundraiser Bowl for Kids’ Sake throughout the month of March along the Lakeshore.  Bowlers are asked to solicit pledges, and then bowl with their team at one of the 6 events the Agency is hosting in Grand Haven, Muskegon or Hart.  Money raised from these events is used to seek and support mentors for children in need of a caring and consistent adult in their lives.

 

My Town Muskegon: Balance classes start Feb. 24 for seniors at Mercy Health

MUSKEGON, Mich.-- Do you have concerns about falling? Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities.

A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. You will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home and exercise to increase strength and balance.

Who should attend? Anyone concerned about falls, anyone interested in improving balance flexibility and strength, anyone who has fallen in the past and anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns. Classes start Tuesday, Feb. 24 and are held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for eight weeks at the Mercy Heart Center, 1212 E. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI.  The cost is $10. My Town Muskegon: Midwest Luge Classic

MUSKEGON, Mich.-- Muskegon Winter Sports Complex will showcase the Midwest Luge Classic this Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.

Luge competitors ages 8 and older from around the Midwest will race from the top of the Muskegon Luge track for the highly coveted Masley Cup.
