3rd Annual Turkey Trail Run

The Gillette Nature Association invites the community to take part in this fun 5K run!

This fun 5K begins at 9:00am at the beach parking lot. The little Turkey Mile Trot starts at 10:30am in the Visitor Center.

“The Gillette Nature Association is a non-profit organization that promotes & sponsors interpretive activities & educational opportunities for the Muskegon & Ottawa county community surrounding the Gillette Visitor Center at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park.” All proceeds from this event will benefit the Gillette Nature Association at Hoffmaster State Park.

The Girls Scout of Michigan Shore to Shore, Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids, Goodwill Industries of West Michigan & Goodwill of Northern Michigan are teaming up to make this dress drive possible.

This campaign will make a difference for those giving & those receiving. Those giving, it will help clean out closets, which in-turn provides giving back to the community. So, donate your dresses to ANY Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids, West Michigan or Northern Michigan store through November 14.

Then, get social! Share the “Every Dress Has a Story” initiative with all your social networks. Post your commitment to this campaign with the hashtag #EveryDress & share a picture of the dress that you’re donating plus the story behind it.

The public is invited to the 35th Annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Show at Mona Shores High School from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, November 1.

At an admission of $1.00, guests are invited to check out one-of-a-kind homemade crafts for purchase in three gyms and the cafeteria at 1121 W. Seminole Road in Mona Shores.

"Pilot Error" Screening in Muskegon

MCC Spotlighted in New Feature Film

The producers of “Pilot Error,” the exciting new feature film inspired by the true story of a French airliner missing in the Atlantic, will honor Muskegon Community College faculty, staff, students and alumni at a special Nov. 12 premiere.

The film, set for an 8 p.m. screening at Cinema Carousel in Muskegon, features numerous college locations and was shot across west Michigan as well as An Arbor, Ypsilanti, Willow Run, Milwaukee and Paris.

Tickets are $5 for MCC students with ID, $8 for seniors, and $10 for adults

MCC President Dale Nesbary, along with star Kate Thomsen and Muskegon producer Roger Rapoport, will introduce the film. The premiere event will include a meet-and-greet and a talkback with Nesbary, the cast and a veteran airline pilot.  

Opening across the Midwest at more than 40 locations in November and December, “Pilot Error” will expand to more than 200 locations in 2015.

WE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING!!

So said the many nurses who served in WWII

 

Nurses are so often invisible, but so essential to medical care.  This need was no less important in WWII when nurses cared for wounded American soldiers all over the world.  Seventy-nine women from Muskegon went to war as nurses and served all over the world.  The USS Silversides Submarine Museum will honor the memory of these women with an exhibit that will open 17 November 2014 at 6:00 p.m.  The exhibit features film from the era, descriptions of nursing activities, and a variety of recruiting posters.  Admission is $5.00  for the exhibit opening and allows access to all  exhibits in the museum. The exhibit will continue through February 22nd, 2015.

The Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts Announces its new Marketing Campaign!

The Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts is excited to announce its new marketing campaign, “Love Muskegon – Every Ticket Counts”.  To celebrate the kick off, we will be presenting a local star-studded lineup of talent for “The Frauenthal Follies” Show on November 14, 2014 at 7:30 pm.  The lineup includes: Chris McGuigan and Patrick Johnson, Bob Lukens, Sheila Wahamaki, Andrew Zahrt, Chief Jeff Lewis, RC Productions Staff, Mike Olthoff & Company, Judy Hayner, Dale Nesbary, Carla Hill, Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Co., Miss Michigan, Miss Teen Michigan, Muskegon Civic Theatre, Blanche Smith and surprise guests!  Muskegon County Commissioner Bob Scolnik will be the emcee!
