Muskegon County 'Shake Your Mailbox' Day

The Muskegon County Road Commission has declared October 23th as 'Shake Your Mailbox" Day.

Each winter, mailboxes are damaged or knocked down during winter maintenance operations.  More often than not, damage to mailboxes is caused by snow pushing against weakened posts or hardware.  If you can shake your mailbox, it probably needs maintenance.  Take time now to make any repairs needed so your mailbox will be strong enough to survive the winter.  Proper maintenance may help to prevent damage that results in delayed mail delivery, or worse, having to make alternate delivery arrangements.  On “Shake Your Mailbox Day”, please give your mail box an aggressive shaking and a thorough inspection.

Did you know?

  • Your mailbox is in the road right of way, and is allowed by the road commission as a convenience to you.
  • If you have questions or concerns with respect to the rules and requirements

Oakridge kids visit the Muskegon Farmers Market

The Muskegon Farmers Market is always fun, the sea of colors and the delightful smells of area fruits and vegetables bring people to buy from local venders as well as just enjoy the beauty of the bountiful harvest. Today was a real delight as the kindergarten classes from Oakridge schools were on a field trip to the market. The excitement was contagious; I marveled at the variety of gourds and pumpkins with the kids, I took a second look at the wide variety of Michigan apples and winter squash on display and the magnificent array of fall flowers. Today the market was even better than usual as I got a chance to really see the bountiful harvest in the wonder and joy of the kids enthusiasm.

The Farmers Market is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 7am to mid afternoon, May thru November and in December on Saturday only.
