Wizard of Oz to hit the big screen

Muskegon, MI Sept. 21, 2010: In tough economic times, the Harbor Theater has provided relief on the entertainment budget to families by offering new family-friendly flicks for only $1.00 per admission ticket. Now, they are introducing classic films to the mix.

"We were thinking…what movies would we want to share with our children that we enjoyed and they had never seen?" says Jen Pelto, owner of the Harbor Theater, 1937 Lakeshore Drive in Muskegon.

For only $6.00 enjoy watching Buster Keaton in Seven Chances, Cops and The Cook with live music performed by Dennis Cook.

At 8:00pm watch "Can Buster Come Out and Play?"  This was the question young Bart Williams asked Eleanor Keaton after he knocked on the door of Buster Keaton's home in Woodland Hills, California.  Buster did indeed come out and play, and Bart will be a special guest this year in Muskegon, Buster's hometown.  When he grew up, Bart became the best friend of Buster's widow, Eleanor, and he's got plenty of memories to share.  A professional actor, physical comedian and singer since he was a child, Bart Williams will not only talk about his memories of Buster and Eleanor, he will present "The Art of the Pratfall" and will give a short concert of "The Songs of Buster Keaton", accompanied by Patricia E

New business opens in Muskegon

Shoreline Spectacular - GFS MarketPlace Family Picnic Rescheduled

Shoreline Spectacular had many successful events happen this last weekend (Labor Day weekend) but unfortunately our GFS Marketplace Family Picnic was rained out.

We have decided to reschedule it to this Sunday, September 12th, from 1 – 5 pm. The location will be at GFS Marketplace, 885 W. Sherman Blvd. All money raised here will go to local charities (just like the festival).

The events that were planned for the original picnic will take place here. We will be raffling off the 2010 Polaris Quad, we will be having a hot dog contest (sponsored by Vienna) and music.

The picnic will be $5 for adults / $3 for children under 12 yr old.

It will include a pig roast (bbq or not), baked beans, potato salad, and ice cream. (Beverages sold separate) and for the children there will be hot dogs, chips and juice.

Muskegon Opportunity Hosts Mentor Training Workshop
Caring, committed adults needed to mentor local high school students

Muskegon, Mich., Aug. 24, 2010 — Muskegon Opportunity is hosting a mentor training workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, in the Blue & Gold Room on the Muskegon Community College campus at 221 S. Quarterline Road.

Muskegon Opportunity is working to help local high-school juniors prepare for and enroll in the post-secondary education option of their choice, from a four-year college program to a professional training program; and caring, committed adults from all walks of life are vital to helping these students realize their goals.

Mentors will be good role models and help students navigate the path toward their dreams. Mentors focus on successfully earning a high school diploma, pursuing higher education and planning for a career.
