MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich.—The Muskegon Area Intermediate School District has earned a new title as Muskegon County’s Breastfeeding-Friendly Business of the Year.

The Muskegon County Breastfeeding Coalition announced the honor during the Great Start Muskegon Legislative Breakfast Friday.  Six groups were nominated for the honor, including the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at Public Health Muskegon County, The Lakes Mall, The Healing Light, Ryke’s Bakery and O’Brien Family Chiropractic.  The Muskegon Area Intermediate School district took the honor for its flexible scheduling for breastfeeding moms, as well as providing a separate room equipped with a sink and refrigerator for private pumping.

Public Health Muskegon County says supporting breastfeeding leads to lower health care costs, employee turnover rates and absenteeism rates, while boosting employee productivity and morale.
