MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WZZM) --  Now that she has been in office for two months, Muskegon Heights Mayor Kimberly Sims says it was time to brief her constituents about the challenges they face, and her plans going forward.

Monday night the new mayor delivered her first State of the City address. In spite of what she calls “a perception problem,” Mayor Sims told the crowd at city hall there are many things to celebrate in Muskegon Heights.

“We look at what Muskegon Heights is not doing and we don’t celebrate what Muskegon Heights is doing,” she pointed out.

If people cooperate and work together, the Mayor says she thinks they can find innovative answers to their problems.

“We are going to have to have cooperation among one another,” she told the crowd. “All of our staff, all of our citizens. We are going to need that cooperation and then we have to be innovative.”

The Mayor says the city is carefully screening candidates for the vacant city manager and chief of police positions to find the right leaders to build on work already underway.

“We are ready,” she says. “We are ready to take on the next challenges.”
