Meijer Scholar Athlete: Sydney Tharp | News

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) WZZM and Meijer are pleased to recognize Mona Shores High School senior Sydney Tharp as our Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of October 31st.

Sydney is a three-sport athlete at Mona Shores competing in volleyball, basketball and softball. She has earned numerous accolades including All-O-K Black in softball, team most valuable player, and academic all-state in both volleyball and softball.

Sydney is a standout in the classroom with a 4.02 grade point average. She serves in the student senate at Mona Shores and is a member of the National Honor Society. She tells WZZM she would like to go into medicine because of her interest in science. "I really want to be a doctor," says Sydney. "I like working with kids so maybe a pediatrician. Science is something I've always liked to do. I've been interested in human anatomy, biology, those are my favorite classes in school. I figure if I like it so much, I might as well continue with it." Undecided on a college, she has applied to Grand Valley State, Michigan State and the University of Michigan.
