MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - Muskegon will have a 4th of July fireworks show after all.

After the Muskegon Summer Celebration which usually features the fireworks display was canceled, County Commissioner and retired businessman Bob Scolnik used Facebook to raise $17,000 and the Community Foundation for Muskegon pitched in $10,000 to provide for "Muskegon Fireworks 2012" to be held at Heritage Landing on July 4th.

Heritage Landing will be open beginning at 7:30pm with the fireworks scheduled for 10:30pm.  Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and snacks.  No personal fireworks will be allowed on the site and will be confiscated.

A partnership with the Fruitport Lions Club helped move the project ahead quickly as they coordinated the fireworks display and assisted in obtaining the needed permits.

A fund at the Community Foundation has been set up to receive and oversee funds received for this and future displays. Donations are still being accepted at https://cffmc.org/give/online-giving  and look for Muskegon Fireworks on the drop down menu. Any excess funds will be used for next year's show.

Current show information is available on Facebook by going to Muskegon Fireworks 2012. In the event of rain, the show will be rescheduled to Friday night July 6th or Saturday night, July 7th.
