Mr. Scrib's expands to the southwest | News
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) -- The owners of Muskegon-based Mr. Scrib's Pizza and their partners are betting the rest of the country with enjoy their food just as much as people in West Michigan, so they are expanding the lakeshore pizza chain to the west.
"We are opening up eight to ten stores in the greater Phoenix market right now," says Bill Cooper of Mr. Scrib's Franchising Company. "It's a growth area still, even though the economy is bad there like it is here. It's a growth area and people are still moving into that market."
Customers on the lakeshore have been enjoying Mr. Scrib's Pizza for more than 50 years.
"It's my favorite pizza place in the whole world, for sure," says one customer at the chain's Grand Haven location.
If customers in West Michigan are so devoted to the pizza and its secret blend of cheese sauce and fresh toppings, company executives figure diners in Phoenix and other areas will also choose Mr. Scrib's over all the other pizza options.
"It is pizza -- not very complicated -- but Scrib's is a very unique product," says Cooper. "Competition isn't necessarily a scary thing if you have a unique product."
Executives say just two weeks after the opening of the first Mr. Scrib's location in Phoenix, the business is breaking even. Another location is scheduled to open in three weeks. Once established in Phoenix, executives plan to expand the chain to the rest of the country.
