DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A worker at a Muskegon County auto repair shop shot and killed a dog that was attacking a visitor to the business.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Brad's Automotive in the 4100 block of Whitehall Rd.

Witnesses say an Akita dog managed to get out of a house behind the auto shop and attacked a 24-year-old man who stopped by the business.  A mechanic tried pulling the dog away from the man before another employee shot the dog, killing it.

The victim was taken to Mercy Health Hackley Hospital in Muskegon for treatment of dog bites to both of his arms.  There's no word on his condition.

Muskegon County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the incident.
