Include Montague and Whitehall on your Color Tour

Include Montague and Whitehall on your Color Tour

The Whitehall/Montague area offers much in the way of interesting things to see and many acres of beautiful trees in the fall with all their many colors. Put these two places on your color tour list this fall.

Did you know that Montague has the world’s largest weathervane, located at the corner of Dowling and Water Street?  This is a functioning weathervane, 48 ft. tall with an arrow 26 ft long. A very unique and interesting artifact.

Whitehall has an 1875 lighthouse, now used as a museum that offers the opportunity to see what life was like around the Great Lakes of Michigan. There are many interesting items to see inside.

West Michigan Underwater Preserve Ribbon Cutting

West Michigan Underwater Preserve Ribbon Cutting

Thanks to the hard work of the members of the West Michigan Underwater Preserve, a group created in 1980, close to 345 square miles of underwater treasures will be protected. Shipwrecks and other underwater structures in West Michigan waters will now become a part of  Michigan’s Underwater Preserve System which protects some of the region's most sensitive underwater resources. Although shipwrecks and other underwater cultural resources are protected under the law anywhere in Michigan's Great Lakes waters, the preserves are "underwater museums" that protect concentrations of shipwrecks, unique geological features and other submerged sites.

Muskegon Wastewater Youth Turkey Hunt

Muskegon Wastewater Youth Turkey Hunt

The Muskegon River Bottom Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has teamed up with the Michigan DNR and the Muskegon County Wastewater for the 2012 Youth Turkey Hunt.

Saturday the youth turkey hunters joined NWTF members and DNR officers at the State Game Area for safety information, shotgun patterning and more.

The group of young hunters accompanied by parents and guardians, donned hearing and eye protection for patterning their shotguns, then learned how to set up their blinds,  met their volunteer guides and brushed up on the rules for the 2012 youth turkey hunt.

All of the youth were successful in the drawing for a Muskegon County hunt tag. Unit #ZF general #0132.

After the fun events at the State Game the hunters and guides headed to the Muskegon Wastewater site to scout out good hunting areas.
