My Town Muskegon: Applebee's celebrates grand re-opening with donation to Kids' Food Basket

MUSKEGON, Mich.—A newly-renovated Applebee’s restaurant celebrated its grand re-opening Tuesday, Feb. 18 by helping hungry children.

During the ribbon cutting event, the restaurant located at 1825 E. Sherman Blvd. presented a check for $5,573.22 to Kids' Food Basket.  The donation marks nearly $35,000 Team Schostak Family Restaurants has donated to non-profit organizations throughout West Michigan.

“We’re so excited to be here on the lakeshore now and we’re serving two schools- almost 600 students a day,” says Kids’ Food Basket Executive Director Bridget Clark-Whitney. “This kind of donation is going to provide over 5,500 meals to kids right here in the community. Every dollar means a meal and every meal means a time that a child isn’t going to bed hungry and that child is able to get up, go to school and learn right here in Muskegon County.”

Restaurant employee accused of stealing customer credit card information

FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich.—A Taco Bell employee will face charges for using a customer’s credit card information to make purchases throughout the Muskegon County area.

On Jan. 10, officers say the suspect was working the drive through window at the Fruitport Township Taco Bell at 5425 Blueberry Lane when they took a customer’s credit card and copied down the information on it.  The employee then returned the card to the customer.

Police say the suspect presented a faulty credit card at businesses.  When the card was declined, the suspect would offer to call the credit card company to straighten things out.  The suspect would then present the handwritten account number, saying the credit card company provided that information to complete the transaction.

The Taco Bell customer saw the suspicious transactions listed on their account and contacted police, who tracked the crimes to the employee.

MUSKEGON, Mich.-- A high school friend from days of old suggested I visit Handsome Henry's American/Italian Kitchen and Bar in Muskegon.   It sounded interesting and since we were going to be in the neighborhood soon, we made plans to meet some other Muskegon friends for lunch.    The front of the building was very inviting: bright red painted brick, black roof and sunny yellow umbrellas on the patio tables, next to a soothing pond.  After a little confusion as to how to enter, we discovered the entrance was actually in the rear. The same brightly colored theme carried throughout the dining area and bar with walls of purple, gray, and orange and beautiful tile work of the same.
