Healthy alternative foods to grace school menus this fall

Healthy alternative foods to grace school menus this fall

Some healthy, new foods will grace the lunch menu at elementary schools in Montague and Whitehall when classes begin September 3.

This summer, Chef Jamie Paquin, owner of Mia and Grace in Muskegon, spent several weeks training the schools’ kitchen staff on how to make alternative, healthier foods, including:  penne pasta with chicken and parmesan, hummus with vegetables and pita chips, roasted chicken salad sandwiches, southwest chipotle wraps, rotini pasta with broccoli and chicken, chicken taco salad wraps, and quinoa with roasted chicken, cranberries and apples.  All of the foods are part of Chef Paquin’s “Fresh” school lunch menu.

Grabbin' A Bite reviews Mango's Bar & Grille

Grabbin' A Bite reviews Mango's Bar & Grille
NORTON SHORES, Mich.--  It's summer and we were ready for a trip to a tropical island. Since that wasn't about to happen soon, we decided to visit Mango's Bar & Grille in Norton Shores. They advertise themselves as a "ticket to paradise." We wanted to see if we could transport ourselves through food, because that's what foodies do. The bright tropical colors, grass hut decor, colorful birds and fish on the walls did not disappoint. Even the restroom was painted in citrus colors of mango, orange, and pineapple.  Mike and I were there for an early lunch on a Friday and business was slow, so it was a seat-yourself day. We had a short wait for our friends to arrive, but menus and drinks were delivered right away. After we were all settled and greetings were exchanged, our server, Eryn, returned quickly to ask if we were ready to order or had any questions.

'Grabbin' A Bite' reviews Hennessy's

MUSKEGON, Mich.-- Mike and I had been planning our visit to Hennessy's for quite some time, but the weather was not cooperating.

Finally, two days before Saint Patrick's Day, we were able to meet our friends there for lunch. The timing was perfect since Hennessy's is an Irish pub and restaurant.

We were the first to arrive for lunch, which was nice since we had a good open view of the interior.  I was impressed with the dark, shiny wood, and the bar with stained glass behind it.  The bottles and glasses were sparkling. On the left was a fireplace which was glowing and welcoming.   Soft Irish music beckoned us in.  I was sure this was going to be an exciting afternoon.   Our friends arrived soon after we did. We were all seated, our waiter poured our beverages, then he took our order. We had a few questions about bangors and rarebit.
