UPDATE: Tim Hortons planned store gets unanimous approval from Norton Shores

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Norton Shores City Council last week gave unanimous approval to a permit for a proposed Tim Hortons location.

The store will be built at 3334 Henry St., on property in front of the Meijer store off Seaway Dr.

The Norton Shores location would be the first Tim Hortons restaurant in Michigan west of Lansing.

A spokesman for the Canada-based chain says the company is excited to make the move into West Michigan, and is always looking for other areas where it can grow.

The restaurant could open in spring or summer 2011, according to the spokesman.

Tim Hortons was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario.  The late National Hockey League star Tim Horton and a group of friends started the business, now known for its coffee and doughnuts.  The chain now has more than 3,000 locations, including more than 500 in the U.S.
