Muskegon welcomes new store

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM)--  A new store is opening in Muskegon.

Big Lots will celebrate its grand opening Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. During the ceremony, the district manager will award $2,500 to Oakview Elementary School.

The new store is located in the Sherman Centre, at 1650 East Sherman Boulevard. It replaces the old business on 2520 Henry Street.

Meeting Friday to expand and keep businesses in Muskegon County

Muskegon Community College will host a meeting Friday to discuss and develop a plan to boost economic development in Muskegon County.

The Muskegon County Smart Growth Meeting runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 3 at the college’s collegiate hall.  The meeting will focus on  promoting business expansion and retention.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.  Community members and local government workers are encouraged to attend.

Plant sale at Muskegon Area Career Tech Center

Spring is here!

The Muskegon Area Career Tech Center will be selling plants Tuesday to help fill your garden and flower beds.

Lakeshore Business Expo returns Thursday

The Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with the chambers of commerce from Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg for the Lakeshore Business Expo.

The Expo will run from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at Trillium Banquet and Conference Center, located in Spring Lake. The Lakeshore Business Expo will feature 70 booths representing local businesses. The annual event attracts more than 500 visitors.

Goodwill Industries is giving back to those who donate May 1-7. As a special thank you for dropping off your donations you will earn a 20% off of coupon good through May 31st!

Do some spring cleaning in your closests and throughout your home. The donations made to Goodwill also help fund their mission to find people jobs.

Free haircuts for those who decide to donate

Workers at the Sports Clips in Muskegon and five other locations will give free haircuts Wednesday, April 27 for customers who have agreed to donate their organs.

The issue is very close to the heart of one of the store owners, Stacey Patulski.  His eight year old daughter, Lauren, was born with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia and will need a liver transplant. Patulski says the haircut giveaway is his way of thanking those who have agreed to donate organs while educating others.  

Donors can get free haircuts from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.  at the locations listed below:
