Muskegon County MATS unveils new Compressed Natural Gas Bus

Muskegon County MATS unveils new Compressed Natural Gas Bus

Chairwoman of the Muskegon County Transportation Committee Rillastine Wilkins presided over the unveiling of the MATS (Muskegon Area Transit System) bus on September 27th. The bus features art work from students who submitted their work as part of a contest at Wesley School, Muskegon High School and Three Oaks Public Academy. MATS selected the three urban schools to participate in the contest because they are located within the MATS service area, and many students utilize the MATS service. Some of the local artist were on hand to help unveil the new bus featuring their art work.

The top 6 winning student entries are featured on the new bus and over 40 winning student submissions are displayed on the MATS website http://www.matsbus.com/photo-gallery

The students art reflected the theme “This is My Community”, and many of our local landmarks like Muskegon’s Heritage Landing and Pere Marquette Park were used in their art entries.

Imagine getting out your markers and drawing a picture with the hopes it will be plastered on the side of city bus? That is exactly what students from Muskegon High School, Three Oaks Public Academy, and Wesley School did as part of a contest held earlier this year.

MATS (Muskegon Area Transit System), County Commissioners, and some of the artists themselves will unveil the new compressed natural gas bus featuring the six winning student drawings on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 4:15 p.m. at the Muskegon County Hall of Justice (990 Tearrace Street) following the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Transportation Website Expands to Four County Area in West Michigan

West Michigan residents in a four county area can now visit one website to find a variety of public and private transportation options if they need a ride for work, school, medical or social service visits, or intercity travel.

The Ottawa County Transit Coalition recently expanded its website, www.lakeshoreridelink.org, to include the counties of Allegan, Ottawa, Kent and Muskegon.  The website, which was first launched in 2010 with transportation providers for Ottawa County only, now includes more than 50 transportation providers with detailed information on their services and costs to help residents find a ride.
